In a ceremony at Roermond, Thursday 27 February, the highest NATO medal - the NATO Meritorious Service Medal - was presented to Captain Caroline Burgers, NLD Air Force. Air Marshal Graham Stacey, Deputy Commander JFC Brunssum, presented the medal and remarked upon Captain Burgers’ outstanding contribution whilst serving in ISAF as a Gender Advisor.
Lieutenant General Richard Tieskens, Chief of Staff JFC Brunssum, awarded Sergeant First Class Stolp NLD-A with the "Combat Badge” for operating under enemy fire in Afghanistan. National gold medals were presented to Warrant Officers Bär and Grissen for long service in the Netherlands Army.
All Dutch active service members present received the "Veteran’s Pin”. This decoration formally recognises the active service of Dutch military personnel on missions and accords them the status of ‘veteran’. Until recently this status was only granted to retired military personnel. The ceremony took place at the National India Monument in Roermond, the Netherlands. Special guests included the Governor of Limburg and the Mayor of Roermond.
