Flight Lieutenant G F H Webb has carried out 52 operational sorties over enemy territory. Fourty-eight of these have been photographical reconnaisance flights completed during the past five months and of those twenty-two were low level operations in which photographs were taken at heights varying from 300 to 2,000 feet. His results have been of enormous value and his low level obliques, particularly of certain RDF stations, on the enemy occupied coast have provided a mass of invaluable information...He has always chosen to take on the most daring and difficult operations himself and has been an inspiration to his flight. Many times during the winter he has taken off and returned with successful results in weather conditions that appeared to be almost impossible for a single-seat aircraft unequiped with radio. In all these operations he has shown the greatest courage and determination in the face of the enemy.
Bar to DFC:
This Officer has completed thirty successful reconnaisance sorties on Spitfire, Mosquito and Wellington aircraft while holding the appointment of Wing Commander Operations at No 34 Wing. He has consistently chosen dangerous operations, often of an experimantal nature, and his enthusiasm and determination has been an inspiration to the whole Wing. I consider that he has set an invaluable example and most strongly recommend the award of the DSO.
Distinguishing himself during operations near Arnhem from 17 to 25 September 1944 by doing particularly brave deeds and setting in every respect a praiseworthy example in very difficult circumstances.
